Rep. Norcross Delivers Nearly $2M in Community Project Funding for Camden City and CCMUA

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ-01) delivered $1,850,000 in Community Project Funding to the City of Camden and the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority for the purchase of new garbage bins that will enable the semi-automation of curbside collection services and for upgrades to the county’s sewer system to improve water quality.

“These projects represent meaningful improvements to the communities here in Camden, and they show what’s possible when government listens to the local leaders who know their communities best,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “We’re not only supporting economic development through new investments and jobs, but we’re also responding to the pressing needs of this community by advancing a cleaner, greener Camden. Through cleaner streets, improved neighborhoods, and reduced pollution, the revitalization of Camden City continues to move forward.”

The $1,000,000 grant to CCMUA will be used to make upgrades to the county’s sewer system and to improve water quality in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The $850,000 grant to the City of Camden will support the city’s purchase of new garbage bins for city residents that will enable the semi-automation of curbside collection services. Equipped with radio-frequency identification tracking, Camden will be able to move away from a “drag and dump” form of garbage collection to one that is more efficient and will result in less environmental waste.

Rep. Norcross Delivers $1.7 Million in Community Project Funding to Improve Westville and Magnolia Fire Safety

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ-01) delivered $1,700,000 in Community Project Funding to Westville Fire Department and Borough of Magnolia to improve fire safety in South Jersey. $900,000 in federal funding was awarded to Westville Fire District for a new rescue pumper and $822,000 will be presented to Magnolia Fire Company to purchase a new fire engine.

“Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our community safe and ensuring they have the tools they need to respond quickly and safely is crucial,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “This investment is needed now more than ever before, when the Trump Administration has made major cuts to federal grant programs across the country, so I couldn’t think of a better time for this funding to come through. Together, we are helping Westville and Magnolia replace aging equipment so our firefighters can continue keeping our residents safe.”

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ-01) delivered $1,900,000 in Community Project Funding to Rowan University and Gloucester County to support the research, development, and testing of concrete 3D printed housing and critical roadway infrastructure improvements at Rowan’s West Campus.

“With this new Community Project Funding we are making smart investments that keep South Jersey on the map as a leader in education and innovation,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “One project will support groundbreaking 3D printing research into new housing technology and the other will strengthen the roads and infrastructure needed to support Rowan’s continued expansion. “I always say that my three priorities are jobs, education, and security in our nation and our neighborhoods, and this funding helps deliver on all three—expanding educational opportunities that prepare the future workforce while improving traffic safety in our communities.”

The $1,050,000 grant to Rowan University will help students research, develop, and test advanced concrete 3D printing technology to build affordable and resilient homes. Rowan partners closely with labor unions and trade schools to cultivate the future workforce.

The $850,000 grant to Gloucester County will support Phase II of the County’s roadway infrastructure project at Rowan’s West Campus. The project includes the continued construction of Gilbreth Parkway in Mantua, from its existing terminus near the Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine and extending it up along route 55 right-of-way to Edison Parkway and ending at Lambs Road.

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ-01) delivered $850,000 in Community Project Funding to Pennsauken Township to support renovations and upgrades to the township’s Public Works facility.

The project will be used to establish a new, accessible public office facing Clement Avenue to improve public access, construct a covered storage structure to protect critical equipment and support the Fleet Maintenance Division, upgrade maintenance and garage areas, and replace aging building infrastructure.

CHERRY HILL, NJ – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ-01) delivered $1,092,000 in Community Project Funding to the Town of Maple Shade to help construct a new water treatment plant to replace the aging Kings Highway facility. Nearly 20,000 Maple Shade residents rely on the township’s treatment plants every day to provide clean, safe drinking water.

The Kings Highway plant, built more than 50 years ago, sits in an area vulnerable to flooding and has a process for removing contaminants that is outdated and inefficient, leading to a large quantity of wastewater. The federal funding will support construction of a new, modern facility that strengthens the reliability of the township’s water system, expands storage capacity, and improves its ability to remove contaminants from the drinking water supply.

“Last night, President Trump unilaterally ordered a military strike against Iran. For decades, the Iranian regime has posed a persistent threat to U.S. national security, beginning with the 1979 hostage crisis and continuing through its pursuit of nuclear weapons capabilities, its role as a leading global sponsor of terrorism, and its oppression of the Iranian people.

“In response to the recent U.S. strike, Iran has reportedly launched attacks on four of the thirteen U.S military bases in the region, where more than 40,000 U.S. service members are currently stationed. In June of last year, the President asserted that Operation Midnight Hammer had “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear program.

“The American people deserve to understand why this latest strike was undertaken, why it was initiated at this time, and what clear strategy exists to bring this situation to a responsible conclusion.

“Above all, we must ensure the protection of our troops abroad and safeguard religious institutions and vulnerable communities here at home from potential retaliation. Rep. Norcross Presents $1M in Community Project Funding to Maryville Integrated Care

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) presented a $1,015,000 Community Project Funding check to expand Maryville’s telehealth services and joined local leaders for the ribbon cutting of Maryville’s new outpatient treatment location in Voorhees.

U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross, a South Jersey Democrat, said he's "outraged" by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement operation that was reported near an elementary school bus stop.

On Feb. 12, Lindenwold School District officials released a statement to parents and families about an apparent ICE operation that occurred at an apartment complex near a district bus stop, causing confusion and panic for students waiting to be transported to school.

"The presence of multiple enforcement vehicles caused significant fear and confusion, and several students ran from the bus stop," district officials said, adding that some students were so distraught that school administrators deployed counselors upon student arrival and closely monitored dismissal at the end of the school day.

“I am outraged by reports coming out about the ICE operation in Lindenwold yesterday. Their tactics and lack of transparency have instilled fear in the community and have put children in harm's way. Schoolchildren are not criminals, and enforcement actions must reflect that.

“It is extremely concerning that 911 was called. No federal agency is above the law and any effort to undermine constitutional rights or mislead law enforcement erodes public trust. There must be real accountability.

“I am pushing for reforms, including body cameras for ICE agents, pursuing the impeachment of Secretary Kristi Noem, and rebuilding ICE so it operates transparently, lawfully, and with respect for civil rights. Residents, politicians decry ICE action in Lindenwold and South Jersey

A crowd of more than 100 people gathered outside the Lindenwold Borough building on Feb. 13 to protest U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement action across South Jersey and, most recently, in their own community.

The event, which was planned by 20-year-old Tatiana Mercer, coincidentally occurred just a day after an ICE enforcement at a Lindenwold apartment complex sent students fleeing from their bus stop in fear.

"This is only the beginning. Do not lose momentum. Continue to stand up for what is right," Mercer said to a crowd of demonstrators that surrounded her Friday afternoon.

"ICE is not welcome here."

Mercer was also joined by some elected officials, including U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross, a South Jersey Democrat.

The Democratic congressman from Camden County spoke about his own family's experiences with immigration, criticizing a lack of transparency from ICE agents. He also called for the impeachment of U.S. Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and U.S. President Donald Trump.

"We are from all over the world," Norcross said to the diverse group of demonstrators. "We're immigrants that came together."

Camden County Commissioner Jonathan Young encouraged the audience.

"Know your neighbor. Protect your neighbor," Young said.

"Let's not run from them now. Let's stand for them no matter what happens."

Demonstrators lined the sidewalk corner of the property, cheering, blowing whistles and waving flags from various countries.

Signs, written in both Spanish and English, denounced ICE and Trump. Some called for unity.

"I was out on the street 55 years ago," said one woman from Camden County who requested not to be named. "I can't believe I need to be doing this same stuff again, but we're going to do it."

"People have the power, you know, and that's what we're doing. We're making ourselves known, and it's going to have an impact. I truly believe it's going to have an impact."

As the crowd thickened, traffic moving past the building chimed in, adding a cacophony of car horns to the cheering and Spanish music filling the early-evening air.

Joshua Asadi-Wright, a 22-year-old from Lindenwold, gave his reason for demonstrating.

"We need everyone to stand up in the world together, because at the end of the day, [we're] all human," he said.

"We all built this country together."

Rep. Norcross Announces 19 Nominees to U.S. Military Academies

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Donald Norcross, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee and father of a veteran, announced and congratulated his 2026 congressional nominees for the United States service academies.

- This project will pay for construction costs associated with extending the Thomas Edison Parkway, specifically for installation of a new traffic light and for construction of a bridge crossing the Cabin Run Stream.

- This project will fund the Park Safety and Security Project, specifically to add security camera lighting and blue light emergency call boxes
$250,000 to South Jersey Port Corporation
- This project will make improvements at the Balzano Marine Terminal in Camden.

Norcross, Grothman Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Simplify Retirement Plan Reporting and Cut Red Tape

Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ), alongside Congressman Glenn Grothman (R-WI) introduced the Form 5500 Filing Simplification Act, bipartisan legislation to modernize and streamline outdated federal reporting requirements for employer-sponsored retirement plans governed by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

The Form 5500 Filing Simplification Act establishes a single, uniform filing deadline for retirement plans. Under current law, the statutory deadline for filing Form 5500 does not provide sufficient time for companies to complete all the necessary steps for filing with the Department of Labor. As a result, many plan sponsors are forced to submit an extension request with the IRS using Form 5558 simply to file their annual Form 5500 on time. By eliminating the need for a separate extension request, the bill reduces unnecessary administrative burdens on employers while maintaining strong oversight and transparency.

The legislation is supported by the American Retirement Association, The ERISA Industry Committee, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the CHRO Association, and the American Benefits Council. Crumbling school facilities with asbestos, contaminated water, and mold pose significant health and safety threats to more than 50 million students and 3 million teachers in public schools.

The Rebuild America’s Schools Act would: Invest $100 billion in grants and $30 billion in bond authority targeted at high-poverty schools with facilities that pose health and safety risks to students and staff.

Create over 2 million jobs based on an Economic Policy Institute analysis that each $1 billion spent on construction creates 17,785 jobs.

Require states to develop comprehensive state-wide public databases on the condition of public-school facilities. Most states do not track school facility conditions, and this would provide much-needed insight into the condition of our public schools.

Improve broadband and Wi-Fi in public schools.

Rep. Norcross Votes “No” on Republican Homeland Security Spending Bill

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) voted “no” on the Homeland Security Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations Bill.

“Donald Trump, Kristi Noem, and ICE are abusing their power. They promised to go after violent criminals, instead Americans are getting killed and immigrant communities are living in fear. The Republican’s Tax Break for Billionaires Law already dumped $75,000,000,000 into ICE. What they need now is real oversight, transparency, and accountability, not another blank check,” said Congressman Donald Norcross. “The spending package does include $20 million to purchase body cameras for ICE agents, but that’s not good enough. Money alone doesn’t guarantee those cameras get worn. My bill, the Trust Through Transparency Act, would require by law that ICE agents wear body cameras. I will keep pushing until my bill gets over the finish line and body cameras are mandatory for all public-facing immigration enforcement officers. Without enforceable rules, real oversight, and accountability, DHS and ICE will keep operating without consequences. We can do better, which is why I voted ‘no’ on the DHS appropriations bill.”

All ICE agents should wear body cameras, South Jersey congressman says

U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross, a Democrat from Camden, has introduced legislation in Washington, D.C. that would require all immigration enforcement officers to wear body cameras.

The announcement of the proposed bill, which was originally introduced in September, comes just days after 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in Minneapolis.

"Last week, a U.S. citizen was shot and killed in Minnesota by a masked ICE agent," Norcross said in a press release Jan. 14. "We should not need tragedies like this to know ICE agents nationwide must wear body cameras, which is why I introduced a bill to require all immigration enforcement officials to do so, just as police officers in New Jersey are already required to do."

"This loss demands action, and transparency is not optional when lives are on the line."

The bill, which has been short-named the Trust Through Transparency Act of 2025, would amend section 287 of the Immigration and Nationality Act.

All immigration enforcement officers would be required to wear and operate body cameras during public enforcement operations. The bill would also establish an independent advisory panel of experts to provide recommendations regarding camera use and management.

In addition to requiring the wearing and use of body cameras, the proposed legislation also maintains that footage must be kept by ICE for six months from the date of its recording before being permanently deleted, unless it contains "images involving any use of force; events preceding and including an arrest for a crime or attempted crime; or an encounter about which a complaint has been registered by a subject of the video footage."

Additionally, footage would be required to be kept for no less than three years if a longer retention period is requested by covered immigration officers or superior officers who have deemed the footage to have evidentiary or exculpatory value. Retained footage may also be used exclusively for training purposes.

The bill states that longer retention periods may also be requested by members of the public who were subjects of the footage, parents or guardians of a minor subject, or a deceased subject's legal designee or next of kin.

Department of Homeland Security officials would be required to submit a yearly report to members of Congress detailing the number of immigration enforcement actions committed, any instances of noncompliance and any resulting disciplinary actions. These reports would be made public on the DHS website.

Currently, body cams are worn by some, but not all, ICE agents.

Norcross, Kean Introduce SEPSIS Act to Strengthen National Effort to Combat Sepsis

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Representatives Donald Norcross (D-NJ) and Thomas Kean Jr. (R- NJ) introduced the Securing Enhanced Programs, Systems and Initiatives for Sepsis (SEPSIS) Act to strengthen national efforts to combat sepsis, a life-threatening condition that Congressman Norcross developed and fully recovered from last year.

“Last year, I experienced a medical emergency on an airplane and developed sepsis, a medical condition caused by a severe infection. Each year, 1.7 million people in the United States develop sepsis and it is the third leading cause of death in American hospitals. I was one of the lucky ones,” said Congressman Norcross. “I am here today because of the excellent doctors and nurses who saved my life, but too many families aren’t as lucky. The SEPSIS Act directs the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to dedicate staff and resources to sepsis, create an education program to help hospitals adopt best practices for prevention and treatment, and provide Congress with updates on progress toward reducing deaths and complications. The bill also calls for the development of a national outcome measure and creates a recognition program to highlight hospitals with effective prevention and treatment efforts.

Sepsis is the body’s extreme reaction to infection and is one of the leading causes of death in hospitals, killing more than 350,000 Americans each year and costing the health care system billions.

In April 2025, Norcross was hospitalized with a gallbladder infection that developed into sepsis, leaving him in critical condition. He has since made a full recovery, but his experience highlighted the urgent need for more national attention on sepsis prevention and treatment.
