...Two of New Jersey's federal lawmakers introduced legislation Tuesday to strengthen rail safety in response to the 2012 derailment of a chemical-carrying train in Paulsboro. The bill by U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1st Dist.) would require the government and the railroad industry to follow the recommendations of the National Transportation Safety Board, which investigated the November 2012 accident.
..."We must ensure that rail users take steps to minimize the risk of an accident and provide recourse to those affected when companies fail to do so," Norcross said. "These NTSB-supported recommendations will improve rail safety and expand protections for first responders and residents who live along train routes."
