N.J.'s joint military base may get new protection

...Legislation setting defense policy for the 12 months beginning Oct. 1 would block the Pentagon from closing military bases, ensuring another year of protection for Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.

..."Both achievements are critical to our national security, the state's economy and the tens of thousands of military and civilian employees at the base," said Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1st Dist.), another New Jersey freshman member of the committee.

...MacArthur and Norcross have used their positions on the Armed Services Committee to ensure that the defense policy bill protects the joint base. The KC-10 provision enacted last year was for two years, so it was not part of this year's bill.
