Norcross only N.J. Democrat to back defense policy bill

...WASHINGTON -- The U.S. House on Thursday passed legislation setting defense policy for the next 12 months, protecting Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst from cuts, and banning the Pentagon from paying for salutes to troops at sporting events.

...The bill passed, 270 to 156, largely along party lines. Only one New Jersey Democrat, Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1st Dist.) voted for the legislation.

..."My top priority is to keep our nation safe by providing our servicemen and women with the tools they need," Norcross said. "This bipartisan effort - while far from perfect - helps fund America's defense priorities and strengthens the strategically important missions of South Jersey's joint base."
