ADVISORY: Rep. Norcross to Honor Workers, Announce Bill to Designate Peter J. McGuire Memorial and Gravesite in Pennsauken a National Historic Landmark on Friday

CHERRY HILL, NJ. - Tomorrow, Rep. Donald Norcross (D-NJ) will join local labor leaders and state officials to honor workers at the 2023 Peter J. McGuire Labor Day Observance and Scholarship Breakfast and honor McGuire at the annual wreath laying ceremony in Pennsauken.

Rep. Norcross will also announce the introduction of legislation to designate McGuire's memorial and gravesite as a National Historic Landmark. Peter J. McGuire is known as the 'Father of Labor Day,' and lived in Camden and was buried in Pennsauken.

In 2019, McGuire's memorial and gravesite officially became recognized as part of the National Register of Historic Places, the official list of the United States historic buildings, districts, sites, structures and objects worthy of preservation. It was established as part of the National Historical Preservation Act of 1966 and is overseen by the U.S. National Park Service.
