Norcross Votes to Invest in Our National Security, Increase COVID-19 Testing & Tracing, and Protect American Families
July 31, 2020
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) – a member of the House Committee on Education and Labor and House Armed Services Committee – voted in favor of H.R. 7617, which contains six Fiscal Year 2021 bills that fund federal departments and agencies including those related to education, health care, transportation, infrastructure, technology and national defense.
“How we invest our nation’s funding is a reflection of our priorities and these bills show that we are prioritizing the health and safety of American workers and families, addressing systemic racism, and strengthening both our economy and the environment,” said Congressman Norcross. “America continues to battle the coronavirus, which is why I added a provision directing OSHA to implement emergency standards to protect employers, employees and customers and called for a comprehensive testing and contract tracing strategy to keep child care centers operating safely. These commonsense measures are what our economy needs, and it’s what our kids and families deserve.”
Norcross amended the bill to ensure that it addressed the urgent need for a comprehensive national standard for testing and contact tracing focused on child care centers, and directed the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to develop and implement an emergency temporary standard to protect employers, employees and customers against the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace.
