This Friday, Rep. Donald Norcross, D-N.J. and Assemblyman Gilbert "Whip" Wilson, D-Camden/Gloucester, will join a bipartisan Congressional delegation to visit Selma, Alabama and mark the 50th anniversary of the historic civil rights march that ultimately led to the Voting Rights Act. The pilgrimage will be led by Georgia Rep. John Lewis.

...On Friday, the 1st District's congressman made a return trip to the base as part of a tour of the state's key military installations with Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and eight of his fellow members of New Jersey's congressional delegation.

..."This gave me a real opportunity to talk to the men and women of these installations -- not just the ones with stars on their brows -- but the ones who make it all work," Norcross said after the tours.

...Freshmen Reps. Donald Norcross, a Democrat, and Tom MacArthur, a Republican, will join 11-term Rep. Frank LoBiondo, a Republican, as members of the committee charged with developing military policy, setting funding levels and overseeing military operations.

..."We want to make sure that we do our homework to show the assets that the joint base has, and more importantly, how well they do operate there," said Norcross, of Camen, whose district is home to many base employees.

...But for four freshman lawmakers from the Philadelphia area, it was their first chance to weigh in on the law, all while a Philadelphia woman went to the White House to help President Obama highlight the law's benefits.

...Freshman Democratic Reps. Brendan Boyle (D., Pa), of Philadelphia, and Donald Norcross (D., N.J.) of Camden, joined 181 other Democrats in opposing the repeal. No Democrats voted for killing the law.
