...Two of New Jersey's federal lawmakers introduced legislation Tuesday to strengthen rail safety in response to the 2012 derailment of a chemical-carrying train in Paulsboro. The bill by U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) and U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1st Dist.) would require the government and the railroad industry to follow the recommendations of the National Transportation Safety Board, which investigated the November 2012 accident.
Amid the platitudes, YouthBuild student Bart Williams, who, for the occasion, replaced the construction training program's T-shirt with a pin-striped suit and polka-dotted pocket square, got to the point.
"You say you'll help us," said Williams, who is in his early 20s, speaking to U.S. Labor Secretary Thomas Perez and a gallery of state and local politicians at a roundtable discussion Thursday in Camden.
"What about scholarships?" he asked.

..."The Iranian regime is a known sponsor of terrorism that has made no secret of its hatred for both the United States and Israel," Norcross said in a lengthy explanation at the Congregation Sons of Israel in Cherry Hill, N.J.
It was an early morning Thursday for Theresa Garrity. The Gloucester Townshipresident, her two daughters and three granddaughters were in line at the Nike Factory Outlet at 8:30 a.m., an hour an a half before the Gloucester Premium Outlets' 90 retail stores were set to open their doors for the first time.
"I'm very excited," said Garrity's daughter Erin Romani of Marlton, one of the thousands of shoppers who poured into the outlet center as its weekend-long grand opening celebration began Thursday.
