Co-founders of the Congressional Labor Caucus, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) and Congressman Mark Pocan (WI-02), today hosted a roundtable discussion with United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 360 and cannabis workers to discuss workers' rights and organizing the cannabis industry.
Asked about the potential broader impact of unionization on drug testing policies in legal states, Norcross stressed that the "one thing having a union will absolutely do is give you a voice in the workplace—and give you the ability to have representation if you are accused" of violating a given policy.
Reps. Mark Pocan (D-Wis.) and Donald Norcross (D-N.J.). met with employees from marijuana businesses in New Jersey, where legal sales for recreational use began last week.
"Nothing prepares you," said Rep. Donald Norcross (D-N.J.), "for meeting with the victims of war face to face."
In addition, the act would also place large fines on oil and gas companies who commit price gouging as well as create and implement a windfall profits tax to "discourage corporate greed during times of global upheaval and market speculation," Norcross said.
As Republican politicians across the country continue their assault on LGBTQ people, Representatives Norcross and Pocan said they are standing in solidarity with New Jersey's LGBTQ community and their families.
"The people who are coming from Ukraine across the border were walking," Norcross described. "Literally might have a backpack, might have a plastic bag full of their belongings. Primarily women and their children and the despair on their face quite frankly says it all."
