WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following statement on the Administration’s tax reform outline:

“It’s no secret that we need tax reform. However, any tax reform plan needs to benefit working families and those who need tax relief the most, rather than solely benefiting special and corporate interests.

“Even without any specific details, the Administration’s shell of a tax reform plan goes against presidential campaign pledges to help the middle class. It’s more aligned with trickle-down economics, rather than rising the tide that lifts all boats.

“This proposal would also doubly hurt middle class New Jerseyans. More than a third of New Jersey tax filers would be hit with a large tax increase because the Administration’s outline eliminates critical state and local tax relief. Gutting the State And Local Tax deduction would create a painful, added expense for New Jersey homeowners. Why should millionaires and billionaires receive tax relief instead of New Jersey families?

“While I work in Washington to address these issues, it’s important that state and local officials do all they can to advocate for these deductions that matter so much to hard-working New Jerseyans.”
