The $1.5-million grant -- awarded through FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant -- will be used to buy new air tanks (or self-contained breathing apparatuses) for firefighters in Collingswood, Pennsauken and Camden City, Congressman Donald Norcross said.

The congressman said he started advocating in support of the grant in December of last year and thought it would be a big help for municipalities trying to do more with less.

..."This is really a microcosm of what's going on in our entire country," Norcross said.

...In Congress, Norcross, a former union worker, is backing legislation to increase the federal minimum wage over time to $15 an hour. That would result in more than doubling the current $7.25 minimum wage.
