Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ) voted to approve construction of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which will extend oil lines across the U.S.-Canadian border to refineries along the Gulf Coast. The project, which passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support, is expected to create thousands of construction jobs and deliver millions of gallons of crude oil to America, providing a much-needed boost to our refining industry and limiting our nation’s dependence on Middle Eastern oil.

“I’m following through on my commitment to be an independent voice for South Jersey because we need to work together to create good American jobs and become less dependent on the Middle East for our energy,” said Congressman Norcross. “I am proud to stand with members of both parties to support this project that can transform the American economy and put our nation back on the path of lasting growth.”

The $8 billion Keystone XL Pipeline project is expected to support as many as 42,000 construction jobs and contribute approximately $3.4 billion to the U.S. GDP, according to the State Department. The legislation, which passed the House by a 252-161 margin, also includes measures to approve the project’s final environmental impact statements (FEIS) and protections to ensure that the rights of property owners remain intact under federal, state, and local law.
