Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald Norcross was sworn into the 115th Congress, today, and began his second full term with a renewed promise to focus on local issues and fight for American workers.
"As a lifelong resident of South Jersey, it’s an honor to represent the First Congressional District in Congress," Norcross said. "I intend to build on the successes of the past two years – there’s still much more work to be done.”
Among other initiatives last session, Norcross successfully advocated for over $100 million in federal resources to support first responders and service providers across South Jersey, helped protect the jobs and national security mission at New Jersey’s Joint Base, and worked to provide top-quality constituent services for local residents.
In his first official act of the new year, Norcross joined AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka at a press conference, where he re-affirmed his commitments to protect American workers and create jobs.
“Creating jobs and fighting for working families remains my top priority. I will continue to press the new administration to renegotiate bad trade deals. We need fair trade that creates jobs here at home – not just free trade that ships jobs overseas,” Norcross said.
Norcross also called for Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle to begin taking action on creating jobs, like investing in our nation’s infrastructure.
“We must come together to invest in South Jersey’s infrastructure. Strengthening our region’s ports, railways, roads and bridges, as well as our energy infrastructure, will create jobs and position our economy for the next century of progress,” Norcross said. “To fill those jobs, we must expand affordable educational opportunities for every South Jersey family, especially at the county colleges and apprenticeship programs where I began my own career as an electrician.”
In addition to his duties in Washington, Norcross also said he would continue prioritizing community outreach and constituent services in South Jersey.
"Providing top-quality services for our residents will always be job one," Norcross said. "Our office is ready to help the people of South Jersey with any problem they may face, from receiving veteran’s benefits to resolving Medicare and Social Security issues."
