Washington, D.C. – Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) spoke on the house Floor this evening against Republican efforts to repeal the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces executive order instituted by President Barack Obama.

President Obama issued the Fair Pay and Safe Workplaces Executive Order in 2015 to increase efficiency and cost savings by ensuring that federal contractors comply with labor laws. The order requires contractors and subcontractors disclose if they’ve been found guilty of violating federal labor laws, like those protecting workplace safety, fair pay and anti-discrimination rules.

“Before entering public office, I was an electrician. I used to work on top of bridges doing very dangerous work –imagine climbing 150 feet above water. Over the course of that career, three times there were gentlemen that I worked with who never went home, never clocked out. Every day 13 Americans are killed on the job,” Congressman Norcross said. “Sometimes accidents are unavoidable – but many times they are. And that’s what we’re talking about here. The rule doesn’t hurt companies. It’s about basic information . . . When I vote against this legislation, I want everyone to think about the 14 men and women who aren’t going home tonight.”
