Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) – a member of the House Education and the Workforce Committee, electrician by trade and the first labor business agent in Congress – issued the following statement as the Supreme Court of the United States gets ready to hear oral arguments in the case of Janus vs. AFSCME Council 31:

“America needs more good-paying jobs that provide security for families and stability for communities.

“The only way workers will move forward is by sticking together to gain power to raise wages and improve benefits, like health care and retirement. I know how important it is for workers to have a voice in the workplace because I lived it. I sat at the negotiating table fighting for working families, and, now, we must make sure workers can continue to join together.

“The goal in the Janus case is obvious: to divide workers and make it harder to organize. The corporate interests and dark money behind the Janus case want to use the court to rig the economy even more against working people. They’re promising workers a quick buck, when they know lower wages will follow. It’s despicable!

“I look forward to hearing the arguments today that will highlight how important unions are for American workers.”
