WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following statement on news of the passing of his colleague, Congressman Elijah Cummings:

"My thoughts are with the people of Baltimore as they mourn the passing of my friend and colleague, Congressman Elijah Cummings.

"The United States has lost a fierce advocate for civil rights who sought to make our society more fair and just. 

"Chairman Cummings was the ultimate civil servant fighting for liberty, equality, and opportunity for all. My condolences go out to his family and friends, and the great people of Maryland."
