Rep. Norcross Announces Guest to State of the Union Address
February 6, 2023
WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced he will be joined by labor leader Charles Wowkanech to hear President Biden lay out his vision to help create jobs, strengthen the middle class, and grow our economy.
Mr. Wowkanech is the president of the New Jersey State AFL-CIO, where he leads the union’s more than 1 million members and their families across the state in pursuit of social and economic justice for all workers. Mr. Wowkanech is a fierce champion for protecting workers’ voices by safeguarding collective bargaining rights, creating family-sustaining jobs, and encouraging solidarity across the labor movement.
“Charlie’s efforts to lift up working people in New Jersey set an important example for people across our country. As we implement the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, CHIPS and Science Act, Inflation Reduction Act, and other historic bills signed into law in the last two years, it will be labor leaders like Charlie and everyday working people that drive our nation’s economy and communities forward,” said Congressman Donald Norcross.
“I am honored to attend President Biden’s State of the Union address with my IBEW brother, Congressman Donald Norcross. Congressman Norcross is a strong advocate for New Jersey's working families who fights every day to make sure our state gets its share of federal funding, which in turn strengthens our economy and brings in good jobs. Congressman Norcross's success and focus are due in no small part to his union background. As the only electrician in Congress, Brother Norcross is a uniquely powerful and effective voice for working families not just in New Jersey, but nationally. For example, he has called for and won funding for the NLRB, protections for veterans impacted by burn pits, and accountability for workplace injuries at Amazon. As a Labor Candidate, he demonstrates what union members can accomplish when they are elected to public office,” said New Jersey State AFL-CIO President Charles Wowkanech.
