Cherry Hill, NJ-Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01)  today mourns the loss of Camden County Police Department K9 officer “Zero,” a decorated service dog that died last night at age 12.

“Zero was a distinguished member of South Jersey law enforcement. He faithfully served and protected the people of Camden County for years. He was also a wonderful ambassador for the Police Department & the City of Camden and he will be missed,” said Rep. Norcross.Congressman Norcross expressed his condolences to Zero’s partner, Camden County Police Lt. Zsakhiem James and the officer’s family in a telephone call this afternoon.

“I know how painful it is to lose a dog. But Zero represents so much more than just a pet. He was a trusted member of Lt. James' family and his long-time partner on the job. I know the loss of Zero will be felt for a long time to come,” added Rep. Norcross.

Zero, a German Shepherd, was Camden’s oldest police dog, joining the police force in 2007 to become highly skilled in bomb detection. Sgt. James and Zero were honored in 2014 by then New Jersey State Senator Donald Norcross for setting a New Jersey record for the most suspect apprehensions by a K9 officer.

Congressman Donald Norcross is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Budget Committee, and serves as Assistant Whip in the 114th Congress.
