PAULSBORO, NJ – This morning, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) joined CAMcare President and CEO Mark Roberts, CAMcare Vice President and Chief Dental Officer Tonya Cook, Paulsboro Mayor Gary Stevenson, Gloucester County Commissioner Jim Jefferson and Assemblyman John Burzichelli to announce the funding included in the American Rescue Plan (ARP) for CAMcare Health Corporation. Norcross also discussed additional relief from the ARP, including a vaccination plan and resources for community healthcare centers.

CAMcare, a federally-qualified health center (FQHC) in with locations in Paulsboro, Camden City and Clementon, will receive a grant of $7,750,875 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). In addition, two fellow FQHC’s in Camden will also receive grants – the Osborn Family Health Center will receive $3,007,625 and Project H.O.P.E. will receive $1,457,125.

“Every person deserves access to quality, affordable healthcare, regardless of their income-level or whether they are insured,” said Congressman Norcross. “FQHCs like CAMcare provide high-quality healthcare for our South Jersey residents who are most in need. The pandemic has demonstrated the importance of FQHCs in proving accessible services to our community, and the funding today will expand CAMcare’s services and ensure no one is left without the care they need during a deadly pandemic.”

Norcross added: “The American Rescue Plan is a survival package. While the ARP will bring much needed relief to healthcare centers, I also want to honor our healthcare professionals who have proved to be our heroes throughout this pandemic, working to keep us safe and healthy. This relief is much needed and more than deserved after a year of their sacrifice and dedication.”

The American Rescue Plan puts shots in arms, money in pockets, children in schools and people in jobs. It includes $7.6 billion for Community Health Centers across the country. Specifically, the ARP will provide CAMcare with over $7.75 million to be used for improving patient care and expanding services to the community and access to care.

“The passage of the American Rescue Plan will do wonders for FQHC’s across the country, including here at CAMcare,” said Mark Roberts, Chief Executive Officer of CAMcare. “Everybody here knows how important it is to have great, good-quality healthcare. You don’t think about it much when you’re well, but when you’re sick you know how much you need it. This bill will expand services to more people who are in need. We are here for them, and it’s important they know they can come here.”

“This money means a lot to all FQHC’s across the state,” said Tonya Cook, Vice President/Chief Dental Officer of CAMcare. “Throughout this pandemic we never closed. We have been here, we are still here and we are still giving the care that our community deserves, requires and needs. CAMcare showed up, showed out and we do our job.”

“CAMcare has been an important element and provider in this town with a reputation statewide,” said Assemblyman John Burzichelli. “The money that Congressman Norcross has worked to get; this is how it reaches people. This Congressman knows us, and this money is going to find its way to people, better services will be delivered, healthier households so people can go back to work and this recovery will actually happen.”

“Partnership makes lives better, and it’s so good to see the reality of partnership saving lives,” said Gloucester County Commissioner Jim Jefferson. “This money is going to go into changing lives here in Gloucester County. We are doing everything we can to funnel all the funds and all the energy into getting people back to work, getting our kids in school and getting people vaccinated.”

“Paulsboro is a small town, we don’t always have the means or the resources, which is why a program like this means so much for us,” said Paulsboro Mayor Gary Stevenson. “This recovery money will help the taxpayers and help the town. A place like CAMcare is very needed and lets residents walk here and get the healthcare they need.”
