Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) and U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-NJ) today announced $4,127,000 in rural development funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to replace the deteriorating and aging portions of the water and sewer systems along Thomson Avenue in Paulsboro.

“This investment will bring sanitation jobs to the area and it will help improve health and safety in Paulsboro,” said Congressman Norcross, an electrician by trade. “Water is one of our most precious resources and I’ll always work to ensure our communities have a clean and safe water supply. Thanks to this grant, firefighters will now have the water they need to protect our community and families will have safe drinking water.”

“Every community, every family and every individual deserves access to clean drinking water,” said Senator Menendez. “This important funding will not only upgrade the aging water infrastructure, but it will also create jobs, boost the local economy and improve the lives of residents in Paulsboro.  Safe and clean drinking water is a right that all New Jerseyans deserve and I will continue to fight for federal resources to make that a reality for all.”

“New Jersey’s aging water infrastructure is in dire need of repair as it continues to crumble beneath our feet,” said Senator Booker. “Updated water and sewer mains are vital to the health and safety of our communities. This funding will strengthen our water and wastewater infrastructure, protect the health of our families, and help lay the foundation for future economic growth.”

The overhaul of Paulsboro’s water and sewer systems will eliminate the recurring health and sanitary issues that have been a persistent problem. The current water system will be replaced with larger pipes in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations, while the sewer mains will be lined with cured-in-place pipe.
