Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC – Following the announcement from President Donald Trump that he will decertify the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with Iran, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01), member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the below statement:

“Iran must never be allowed to become a nuclear threat to the world. Not now. Not ever. Unfortunately, the President’s reckless decision to decertify Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA could harm our alliances and embolden Iran.

“Two years ago, I voted against the JCPOA because I feared the more than $100 billion released to Iran would be used to further destabilize the already-unstable region. Since then, Iran has continued to test ballistic missiles and support bad actors in the region like Hezbollah. That’s exactly why I voted this July to further sanction Iran – and will continue to vote for increasing non-nuclear and multi-lateral sanctions against the country.

“We need to hold Iran accountable to the parameters set in the JCPOA and ensure Americans and Israelis (our closest allies in the volatile region) are not threatened.”

In August 2015, Norcross laid out why he opposed the JCPOA saying, “the deal ultimately falls short of the guarantees necessary to assure the American people that it will do more good than harm.”
