WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following statement on his NO vote on the American Health Care Act (AHCA) that barely passed the House of Representatives with a vote 217-213:

“Only two groups will benefit from this so-called health care bill: billionaires and undertakers.

“TrumpCare is simply a tax break for the super wealthy at the expense of our families, and it will literally put millions of lives at risk.

“After their stunning failure just weeks ago, I would have thought that Republicans would listen to the American people and stop trying to take health care away from millions of families. Unfortunately, it is clear that did not happen. The changes since then make a bad bill worse, stripping away the coverage guarantee for pre-existing conditions, one of the most important and most popular aspects of the ACA.

“The Republican plan raises costs, cuts coverage, imposes an ‘age tax’ on seniors, guts Medicaid and endangers Medicare. In my district alone, 43,600 people will lose coverage. But perhaps most shamefully, TrumpCare turns its back on our children, women, seniors and all of our neighbors struggling with the disease of addiction.

“I remain hopeful that Congress can work together to actually improve America’s health care system, but unfortunately not today.”
