WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) released the following statement regarding the House of Representatives vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act, which defends a woman’s right to choose:

“Today I voted to protect reproductive health for all women in America. Republicans in Congress and state legislatures across the country continue to wage a war against women’s health. 2021 is on track to be the worst year for women’s health rights since 1973 – the year Roe v. Wade established a constitutional right to basic reproductive health care for every woman in every state.

“Republican legislators in Texas passed an extreme anti-choice bill, and now the Supreme Court, stacked with conservative justices, is on track to overturn Roe v. Wade. Women’s rights are under attack. Congress must protect women as fully equal members of society.

The hypocrisy of Republican legislators would be laughable if it weren’t so dangerous. They treat personal freedom as sacred until a woman wants to be free to decide what’s best for her health. They want to tell the government to stay out of their personal lives until a woman seeks to make the most personal and private of health choices.

“To the Republican officials trying to limit the freedom of women I say: your assault on women’s reproductive health care is unacceptable and must end. The women of South Jersey, and the women of America, deserve better.”
