Press Releases

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01), who serves on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and as a Democratic Assistant Whip, expressed strong support for the new Democratic agenda to make the economy work for all Americans – not special interests or just the wealthiest few.

“The best social program in the world is a good job with fair wages and the dignity that comes with it. Families in New Jersey and across the country are struggling to make ends meet, with stagnant wages and rising costs, and Democrats are fighting for a better deal.

“By raising wages and focusing on the jobs of the future, we are rising above the dysfunction in Washington and offering a real plan for America’s families.

“I owe my path to an apprenticeship, to technical training – it’s what took me from Community College to construction work to Congress. In New Jersey alone, nine out of the ten fastest-growing occupations require either a certificate or on-the-job-training. Democrats realize this career path should be embraced and replicated – and that’s why I stand strongly behind this agenda.”

Representing the American Worker

An International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) member and electrician by trade, Norcross has a long history of fighting for workers in South Jersey. He fought day in and day out to ensure workers had good-paying jobs as a business agent and as president of the Southern New Jersey AFL-CIO. In the state legislature, he was part of the successful fight to raise the minimum wage in New Jersey.

In addition to serving in House leadership, Norcross is the only New Jersey Democrat to serve on the House Armed Services Committee and the state’s only member on the Education and the Workforce Committee.
