Congressman Donald Norcross today announced his support for H.R. 913, the Genetically Engineered Food Right-to-Know Act, that would require labeling of GMO foods.

"Consumers deserve a nationwide standard of transparency for GMOs and I urge Congress to pass this bill," said Norcross. "Labeling products that contain GMOs is the best way for Americans to know what’s in their food, and by standardizing food labeling regulations at the federal level, we will prevent a patchwork of overlapping and contradictory labeling laws that differ from state to state."

Norcross recently met with constituents and policy experts that share his desire for a safe food supply and support H.R. 913, including GMO Free NJ founder Barbara Thomas and Just Label It Chairman Gary Hirshberg. He earned a 91% rating from Food Policy Action, a non-profit organization that promotes a healthy, sustainable food system, for his votes to safeguard the food and water supply system, including voting against a recent attempt to repeal the law that requires county of origin labeling for beef, pork, and chicken.

"The Right-to-Know Act addresses my three main issues regarding labeling, transparency, and standardization across the nation,"said Norcross. "I look forward to working with my colleagues to enact H.R. 913 and other science-based laws that help Americans make informed decisions about what they eat and drink."
