Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) voted to reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban Act, which would ban the sale, import, manufacture, or transfer of certain semi-automatic weapons.

“We need to put the lives of our kids and neighbors first. This bill would do that by banning weapons of war from our streets,” said Congressman Norcross. “Assault weapons are designed for war and to kill people. I’ve hunted and worked with hunters, and there’s no sporting need for these assault weapons. I’m proud to vote for this bill.”

Studies have shown that banning assault weapons reduces gun violence and saves lives. The United States had an assault weapons ban from 1994 to 2004, and during that time, the likelihood of mass shooting deaths fell by 70% and criminals committed 32%-40% fewer gun crimes.
