Washington, DC-Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today renewed his push to close a loophole that allows those on the nation’s terror watch list to legally purchase firearms.
"If someone’s on the no-fly list, why would we still allow them to buy firearms and explosives? No fly, no buy. It’s that simple,” said Rep. Norcross. “Congress needs to act now to keep guns out of the hands of those who wish to harm America and finally close the terrorist background check loophole."
Congressman Norcross’ renewed call comes as President Obama took executive action that expands background checks and mental health reporting on firearm purchases nationwide.
“Expanding background checks and mental health reporting are common sense actions that will make it harder for would-be terrorists and mass shooters to arm themselves. But more can be done - it’s time for Congress to act to close the terrorist background check loophole for good,” said Rep. Norcross.
In December, Rep. Norcross and South Jersey law enforcement leaders called for action to close the terrorist background check loophole. Congressman Norcross has been a long-time advocate common sense firearms regulations that target criminals and restrict access for those with mental illnesses.
Congressman Donald Norcross is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Budget Committee, and serves as Assistant Whip in the 114th Congress.
