WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) successfully included an amendment in the Veterans’ Access to Child Care Act (H.R. 840) ensuring that veterans suffering from the disease of addiction have the same access to child care as veterans with physical health conditions.

“Our veterans selflessly put their lives on the line to protect us. The least we can do is make sure that every single veteran has access to proper health and child care when they return home,” said Congressman Norcross. “Just like so many of our friends and family members, tens of thousands of veterans are unfortunately battling addiction and they certainly deserve access to the care they need and have earned. I vow to continue standing up for all of our veterans and their families by expanding and improving access to health and child care.”

Norcross is the Vice-Chair of the Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Opioid Epidemic, a group of lawmakers from across the political spectrum who are united against the public health crisis. The growing opioid epidemic causes 75,000 drug overdose deaths a year and, according to the American Medical Association, veterans with PTSD are at particular risk of abusing opioids.
