Washington, DC- Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today voted for passage of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015.

“This budget deal is welcome news for working Americans and a victory for the moderate voices in Congress who want to get results. The agreement ensures that we won’t soon see another government shutdown or default as some extremists had hoped, so we can instead focus on helping families get ahead in America,” said Rep. Norcross.

The Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015 achieves something proposed by Rep. Norcross in an amendment he offered in March as a member of the House Budget Committee. That amendment called for new investments in critical domestic and national security priorities, and rejected the deep cuts set in motion by sequestration.

“I’ve been calling for the investments in our economy and defense outlined in this bipartisan budget since coming to Congress, and for reasonable people on both sides of the aisle to come to the table and hammer out a deal that works for our nation’s families,” said Rep. Norcross.

The budget has the backing of numerous organizations that represent the interests of working men and women and older Americans, including the AARP and the AFL-CIO.

“The plan cancels what would have been steep reductions to Social Security Disability Insurance and sharp increases to Medicare premiums, so our seniors and struggling families can have peace of mind,” said Rep. Norcross. “The deal is far from perfect. I would prefer to see more investment in the infrastructure, research, and innovation industries that fuel the South Jersey and American economies. But now we can start to build on this momentum and get America working again.”
