Severe Weather in South Jersey Designated as Natural Disasters
November 4, 2015
Washington, DC- Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today announced federal help is on the way for South Jersey farmers who endured weather-related crop losses due to the severe weather of the spring and summer of 2015.
United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack declared natural disasters in Burlington, Camden, and Gloucester and other South Jersey counties as a result of drought conditions, excessive heat, excessive rain, flash flooding, and high winds. The disaster designations make local farmers eligible for certain assistance, including emergency loans, through the Farm Service Agency.
“South Jersey is home to the best summer produce. Our blueberries and sweet corn are the best in the world. When our farmers suffer, we all suffer. This action by Secretary Vilsack will help our farmers get the assistance they need to recover from a season packed with damaging weather events,” said Rep. Norcross.Congressman Donald Norcross is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Budget Committee, and serves as an Assistant Whip in the 114th Congress.
