Appointed by President Clinton in 1994, Justice Breyer has a reputation for putting the real-world consequences of constitutional issues at the center of his decision making. This approach to the law has led him to defend the right of women to make their own reproductive health care decisions, protect the free speech rights of students, uphold the separation of church and state, and preserve access to health care by way of preserving the Affordable Care Act.
