Remarks from Rep. Norcross After President Obama’s Final State of the Union Address
January 14, 2016
Washington, DC- Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following remarks following President Obama’s final State of the Union address.
Like President Obama, empowering America’s workers through higher wages and increased opportunity are among Congressman Norcross’ top priorities.
“Tonight President Obama made the case for strengthening America’s families, something I’ve fought for all my life. Now more than ever, they need our help. America won’t succeed if families can’t pay their bills and students remain mired in debt,” said Rep. Norcross. “We have the power to raise their wages, provide more opportunity, and make higher education more affordable — if we work together.”
Following the President’s address, Rep. Norcross echoed his repeated call regarding an urgent national security matter in the wake of recent terror attacks and ongoing global threats.
“We must defeat the evil forces of terrorism, and I’ve stood with the President in calling to close the loophole on gun purchases for those on the terror watch list. The U.S. policy should be no-fly, no-buy for those on the government’s Terror Watchlist,” said Rep. Norcross.
Additionally, Rep. Norcross echoed President Obama’s call for bipartisan efforts to strengthen Social Security and Medicare, advance criminal justice reform, and make critical investments in disease research and clean energy. And he is advancing legislation to renew the Voting Rights Act and restore campaign finance transparency to ensure that our elections remain open and fair.
"Working together across party lines, I believe we can tackle big issues, strengthen our democracy, and improve life for all Americans."
Congressman Donald Norcross is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Budget Committee, and serves as Assistant Whip in the 114th Congress.
