Rep. Norcross Announces Federal Grant Award for South Jersey Fire Department
September 20, 2016
Washington, DC-Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today announced a $126,667 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for the Laurel Springs, New Jersey Fire Department.
“Our firefighters can’t be on the front lines of danger with outdated equipment. That’s why I fight in Washington, DC for our local heroes, like the brave volunteers of Laurel Springs Fire Department, to be equipped with the modern gear they need to do their jobs safely,” said Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01).
The federal award will enable the Department to acquire 19 new self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBAs) units for its firefighters, replacing old, outdated equipment.
“This grant award is for the purchase of complete SCBA units, which are one of the most important protections for firefighters. Without this grant award, the Laurel Springs Fire Department would not have been able to purchase this equipment and would have to continue to use outdated SCBA. We are very thankful to Congressman Norcross for his assistance with this grant,” said Laurel Springs Fire Chief Kenneth Cheeseman.
This year alone, Rep. Donald Norcross has successfully supported nearly $6 million in federal government grants for nine Southern New Jersey Fire Departments.
