Congressman Norcross Votes Against GOP Attack on Women’s Rights
January 24, 2017
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) voted against the GOP’s latest attack on women, a radical bill designed to take away comprehensive private health insurance coverage from millions of women.
“On Saturday, millions of women across the country marched to make their voices heard. Every member of Congress heard the marchers’ voices loud and clear – but now House Republicans are choosing to ignore them,” Norcross said. “To restrict healthcare access for women just days after one of the largest protests in history, is a blatant display of disrespect for women.”
Norcross joined thousands of marchers in Trenton, on Saturday. Despite the enormous outpouring of support for women’s rights, Republicans in Congress are continuing to wage a war on women’s right to choose – beginning with today’s vote to restrict health care. The legislation is an unprecedented, radical assault on women’s health care that places restrictions on how women with private insurance can spend private dollars in purchasing health insurance.
“I believe women have the right to make their own health care decisions. It appears House Republicans don’t believe they deserve that respect,” Norcross said. “We should work together on the issues that unite us, like creating jobs and growing our economy – not the culture wars which divide us.”
Norcross has a strong record of always supporting women’s rights. Last year, he received Planned Parenthood of New Jersey’s Congressional Advocacy Award and he penned an op-ed defending the organization in the Courier-Post.
