WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) issued the following statement on the Trump shutdown:

“Just ten days ago, President Trump said, ‘I am proud to shut down the government,’ and, sadly, American workers are the ones suffering because of Trump’s egotistical, politically-motivated temper tantrum.

“More than 420,000 federal workers will be forced to work without pay and 380,000 will be furloughed ahead of the holidays. In New Jersey alone, more than 5,000 federal employees will be impacted by this reckless Trump shutdown. It’s heartless.

“We must focus on what American’s really care about – more jobs, higher wages and affordable healthcare. Come January, our House Democratic Majority will be working for the people – not at the whims of an erratic President.”
