Norcross Statement on Release of Nunes Memo
February 2, 2018
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, issued the below statement following the release of Chairman Nunes’ memo:
“Publicly releasing this partisan, dishonest and misleading memo is a shameful attempt to discredit America’s law enforcement agencies, our intelligence community and the Special Counsel investigation.
“If Republicans were really seeking the full truth, they would immediately remove Devin Nunes from the Intelligence Committee and release the additional memo prepared by the panel’s Democrats.
“The Department of Justice rightfully described this as an ‘unprecedented action’ and ‘extraordinarily reckless.’ It’s a partisan ploy that omits facts and puts not only our national security, but the core of our democracy at risk. Even Republicans are disgusted, like Senator John McCain, who said today that ‘attacks against the FBI and Department of Justice serve no American interests’ and that Nunes and his supporters ‘are doing Putin’s job for him.’
“Russian interference of our democracy isn’t a Republican issue or Democratic issue – it’s an American issue and it must be fully investigated. What happened today was a dangerous display of smoke and mirrors and should leave all Americans asking ‘what are they really trying to hide?’”
