CAMDEN, NJ – Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) participated in the Biden Cancer Community Summit at MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper to hear local perspectives on treatment, proposals for federal actions and personal stories from cancer survivors, doctors, nurses, administrators and more. “Everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer,” said Congressman Norcross. “It’s been over two years since my mother passed away from lung cancer, and not a day goes by where I don’t think of her. When the Cancer Moonshot initiative started in 2016, it aimed to set bold research benchmarks that will lead to cures. Today, it’s inspiring to hear from survivors, along with medical research and treatment experts in South Jersey, as we work together to help those suffering. Our area is becoming a hub for world-class medicine and research, and I’m taking the ideas put forth today and bringing the back with me to Congress.”

“MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper is proud to host Congressman Norcross and the Biden Cancer Community Summit,” said Generosa Grana, MD, director MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper. “We are proud to be one of the organizations across the nation participating in this important national dialogue today.”

The Biden Cancer Initiative was launched to form a cohesive, comprehensive and timely approach to cancer prevention, diagnosis, research and care. The initiative is an independent nonprofit organization that builds on the Cancer Moonshot’s goals and grounded on Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden’s commitment to ending cancer as we know it.

The Cancer Moonshot Initiative aims to accelerate research aims to make more therapies available to patients, while improving our ability to prevent cancer and detect it at an early stage. A Cancer Moonshot Task Force ensures the initiative’s goals by consulting with external groups and the National Cancer Advisory Board.
