Norcross Statement on Trump’s Shameful NDAA Veto
December 23, 2020
CHERRY HILL, NJ – Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today issued the following statement after President Trump vetoed the William M. (Mac) Thornberry National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 335-78-1 and in the U.S. Senate by a vote of 84-13.
“President Trump is intent on making America less safe with his delusional and dangerous actions. He’s apparently on the side of Russians and Confederates, while the rest of us stand with our military families and veterans.
“Russia’s deep and sophisticated cyber attack on our government agencies shows that there are persistent, credible threats to our national security, but Trump refuses to acknowledge it and today, shamefully vetoed the bipartisan defense bill that would protect against future attacks.
“This veto shows that Trump clearly doesn’t care about our servicemembers and their families. Congress voted overwhelmingly to provide our men and women in uniform with a long-overdue pay raise, hazard pay and child care help that Trump is now preventing.
“There is no room for any symbols of hate or bigotry on our military bases, but the President continues to support the Confederates that fought against America to keep people in chains. It’s just plain racist and wrong.”
