WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) voted to pass the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA). This legislation is vital to New Jersey’s 1st Congressional District, which has faced damage from flooding, destructive storms, and tornadoes in recent years.

“By investing in storm and wastewater management and flood mitigation infrastructure, we can better protect our cities, towns, businesses, and homes from the destructive power of severe storms,” said Congressman Norcross. “I’m proud to support the authorization of these important projects to ensure all South Jersey residents are safe.”

The bill grants the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers the authority to implement water resources development projects and studies, including efforts to enhance waterway infrastructure, strengthen South Jersey communities’ resilience to flooding, and support the region’s economy and quality of life.

Congressman Norcross fought to include the following provisions in the bill:

  • Authorizing $4,000,000 for water and wastewater infrastructure in Deptford Township
  • Authorizing $3,200,000 for water and wastewater infrastructure in Washington Township and Gloucester County
  • Raising the authorized funding level for the Camden County Municipal Utilities Authority project from $119 million to $143.8 million.
  • Authorizing feasibility study for navigation project in the Borough of Paulsboro
  • Authorizing feasibility study for channel deepening in the Delaware River in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
