Cherry Hill, NJ-Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today announced a $197,766 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant for the Chews Landing Fire Department in Gloucester Township, New Jersey.
“These federal funds will help our local heroes hire the personnel they need to keep our neighbors safe. I’m happy to have supported this grant application and am grateful these firefighters will be well-equipped when responding to emergencies,” said Rep. Donald Norcross.
The funds will enable the Chews Landing Fire Department to provide salary and benefits for an additional firefighter for two years, bringing the number of paid firefighters in the department from five to six.
“We’re very appreciative of this grant from the federal government which will allow us to hire an additional career firefighter. The increased staffing will improve the safety of our community as well as our firefighters,” said fire district administrator William Robb.
The Chews Landing Fire Department also has approximately 40 active volunteer firefighters.
Rep. Norcross has successfully supported federal fire department grant applications for multiple fire departments across South Jersey.
