Washington, DC-U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today announced the Gloucester City Fire Department received a $57,143 Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG).

“I’m pleased the Gloucester City Fire Department has been awarded this funding. It ensures a critical layer of protection for our firefighters. It’s just as important for our first responders to be safe at their place of work as it is in the field when they’re battling fires and saving lives. This funding gives us peace of mind for the well-being of our local firefighters,” said Rep. Donald Norcross.

The Department will use the funding to replace an antiquated exhaust system in the firehouse that vents diesel fumes from firefighting apparatus.

“This money is a long time coming. It should completely remedy the issue at our firehouse and we’re grateful to Congressman Norcross for his continued support of our firefighters,” said Gloucester City Administrator, Jack Lipsett.

In August 2015, the Gloucester City Fire Department received a $596,298 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant, which enabled the Department to retain 3 full-time firefighters with pay and benefits. Rep. Norcross supported that and other grant applications from fire departments across New Jersey’s First Congressional District.
