Washington, DC, NJ-Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01) today announced the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to re-name the Deptford, New Jersey Post Office the "First Lieutenant Salvatore S. Corma II Post Office Building."

Salvatore Corma, II of Deptford, a 2008 West Point graduate, was killed in action in Afghanistan on April 29, 2010 by an improvised explosive device (IED). Corma warned his fellow soldiers to retreat after discovering the IED. His actions are credited with saving the lives of as many as 19 service members.

“Many of those soldiers who survived that day would come home after service to their country and start a family and pursue the American dream. That’s something that was denied to Sal. But, his selfless actions ensured others will get that opportunity - his fellow service members from April 29, 2010, as well as the rest of us here in the United States," said Rep. Norcross. "Sal Corma is, undeniably, an American hero,”

“Salvatore’s favorite expression was carpe diem (Latin for “seize the day). He cared so much for the service members under his command and accomplishing the mission at hand. I’m honored that Salvatore’s memory is being considered for this special honor,” said Corma’s mother, Trudy.

Salvatore Corma, II was an Army as First Lieutenant of the Alpha Company, 1st Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, out of Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The legislation, the first authored by Rep. Norcross to pass the U.S. House of Representatives, has the support of New Jersey’s entire Congressional delegation and now moves to the U.S. Senate for consideration and action.
