WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) announced that Rowan University’s has been awarded a $361,237 federal grant by the National Science Foundation for biomedical engineering and science research at the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site.

"We will only find the cures of tomorrow by investing in medical research and education today,” said Congressman Donald Norcross, a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. “This grant will allow biomedical engineering students to conduct more cutting-edge research at Rowan University. South Jersey has established itself as a research and medical education hub, and these funds will continue to push our engineering, science and health expertise to the next level.”

“This funding from the National Science Foundation will enable Rowan University to advance its commitments to undergraduate education and research, building teams that will tackle initiatives in important engineering and health care fields,” said Dr. Ali Houshmand, President of Rowan University. “Students from across the country, Rowan and New Jersey community colleges will work with faculty and students from our Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering, College of Science & Mathematics and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University to conduct cutting-edge research that has the potential to benefit society and that also will prepare them for careers in engineering, science and health care.”

The National Science Foundation is an independent federal agency that provides approximately 24% of the funding for federally-supported basic research conducted by America’s colleges and universities.
