WASHINGTON, DC – Rep. Donald Norcross (NJ-01), IBEW electrician and the co-chair of the Congressional Labor Caucus, released the following statement today after a new report found that injuries experienced by Amazon warehouse workers are more frequent and severe than other workers in the industry:

“This troubling new report is further proof that Amazon continues to put record profits over worker safety. As an electrician, I personally witnessed coworkers die on the job, and these increasingly dangerous working conditions in Amazon warehouses across the country are wholly unacceptable. That’s why I have called for investigations into Amazon and led efforts to hold congressional hearing last year on the unsafe and untenable conditions the company’s warehouse workers face. Everyone should get home from work the same way they went to work: safe and unharmed. I will continue to push for safer working conditions at Amazon’s warehouses because the men and women who make Amazon a trillion-dollar company deserve better.”

The Strategic Organizing Center’s report released today found that, “Amazon reported 39,000 total injuries at its U.S. facilities in 2022, up from 38,300 total injuries in 2021.” The study also reported that, “data suggests that injuries experienced by workers at the company are more frequent and severe than other warehouse workers.”

In 2022, Rep. Norcross called for OSHA to investigate Amazon after an analysis found that injuries were skyrocketing in the company’s New Jersey warehouses. He also led a press conference in front of Amazon’s TEB3 fulfillment center in Logan Township, New Jersey to double down on his call for an investigation into the company’s warehouse working conditions. In November, Rep. Norcross led efforts to hold a hearing of the U.S. House Education and Labor Committee’s Subcommittee on Workforce Protections on the unsafe and untenable conditions that Amazon warehouse workers face.
