New Jersey Democrats Donald Norcross and Andy Kim were tapped to join a conference of lawmakers from the U.S. House and Senate that will seek to negotiate a new defense policy bill.

The negotiations are needed because the House and Senate approved different versions of this year’s National Defense Authorization Act, a massive defense bill that sets spending and policy for the military for the upcoming 2020 fiscal year.

The assignments reflect the trust both New Jersey lawmakers have received from House leaders and their respective colleagues on the House Armed Services Committee. Norcross, D-1 of Camden, has served on the panel since his election in 2014 and is the chair of the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee. Kim, D-3 of Bordentown Township, is completing his first year in the House and is also well-versed on defense policy from his time as a national security advisor and statesman. He currently serves on Armed Services’ Readiness subcommittee and its Intelligence, Emerging Threats and Capabilities subcommittee.
