Rep. Norcross, Labor Caucus Escalate Demand for Increased NLRB Funding in Year-End Package
November 29, 2022
U.S. Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01) and his fellow Congressional Labor Caucus co-chairs – Representatives Debbie Dingell (MI-12), Mark Pocan (WI-02), Linda Sánchez (CA-38), and Tom Suozzi (NY-03) – today urged House and Senate leaders to adequately fund the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in the end-of-the-year appropriations package. In a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (CA-12) and Senate Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), the co-chairs called attention to the dire need to shore up the independent federal agency that protects private sector workers’ rights.
“… [W]e write to … express our grave concern over the ongoing funding crisis at the National Labor Relations Board,” the letter reads. “Simply put, the status quo of NLRB funding is untenable. Continuing to underfund the NLRB not only puts workers’ rights at risk but also subjects employers to costly uncertainty. […] Our economy, our Nation’s employers, and our Nation’s workers need the NLRB to receive funding that allows it to fully implement its mission.”
The letter escalates a request originally made in an April 2022 letter, led by Congressman Norcross and signed by 148 of his colleagues, to House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro and Ranking Member Tom Role requesting the NLRB receive additional funding. Today’s letter identifies it as a “top priority” for the Congressional Labor Caucus.
