WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Donald Norcross (NJ-01), co-founder of the Congressional Labor Caucus, released the following statement following the inclusion of increased funding for the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in the proposed Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, a bipartisan funding package of 12 appropriations bills and supplemental funding.

“The increase in NLRB funding is a sigh of relief for millions of America’s workers,” said Congressman Norcross. “For months, I’ve spoken out about the dire funding levels at the NLRB and how the agency plays a vital and independent role in ensuring fairness for both the employees and employer. If the NLRB doesn’t have the money to operate, their staff gets furloughed, and workers and employers are put at risk. We still have a long way to go to restore this agency to its proper place, but this funding can’t come soon enough. I want to thank House Appropriations Committee Chair Rosa DeLauro and Senate appropriators for coming together to create a federal budget that reflects our nation’s values, and I remain committed to leveling the playing field by holding bad actors accountable for violating our labor laws.” 

As co-founder of Labor Caucus and Congress’s only union electrician, Congressman Norcross has fought tirelessly to ensure the NLRB is funded. In April 2022, Norcross led 148 of his colleagues in pushing for adequate funding for the National Labor Relations Board. He then escalated this request in November 2022.
