CAMDEN, N.J. - On Thursday, May 11th, Congressman Donald Norcross (D-NJ) took a stand in support of Planned Parenthood, in response to the recent U.S. House decision to pass Trump's new health care bill, the American Health Care Act.
Norcross met with local patients, staff, and supporters for the #IStandWithPP campaign, to discuss how defunding the organization would significantly impact women who rely on its services.
The "Trumpcare" bill, as it has been dubbed, calls to deny Medicaid reimbursements for services such as cancer screenings, birth control, and other preventative services offered by Planned Parenthood. Norcross says he's surprised so many of his colleagues in Congress voted to pass the bill in the first place.
"My colleagues, 219 [of them], that decided that this was a good bill must have missed that briefing where we talked about [how] this is about women's access to health care," said Norcross. "I think if the average person knew what impact this would have for women, they would be even more outraged than they are already."
