Funding for hangars to house the new KC-46 refueling tankers at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst were included in President Donald Trump's fiscal 2018 budget.

The spending plan for the 12 months beginning Oct. 1 included $269 million for hangars at the two bases selected to house the KC-46 planes, the Joint Base and Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, Calif. The Air Force must complete environmental reviews before the money can be released.

"These hangars will ensure we have the proper infrastructure to house the next generation of air refueling tankers at New Jersey's Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst," said Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1st Dist.), a member of the House Armed Services `Committee. "We must prepare our base for the new fleet of KC-46s and protect it from any efforts in Congress to close bases.''

In the budget, Trump resurrected a failed proposal by President Barack Obama to start another round of military base closings. The budget said that closing unnecessary facilities would save at least $2 billion a year.
